This reserve is accessible from Lago Agrio. It has become a popular tourist destination because of its lakes, swamps and amazing diversity of animals. The reserve itself covers over 650,000 hectares (1,606,184 acres) of primary rainforest and has an incredible variety of wildlife including river dolphins, tapirs, capybaras, caimans, anacondas, ocelots, and monkeys as well as the infamous piranha fish. The bird life here is also spectacular. Many different species of birds have made the reserve their home, including the amazing harpy eagle with its eight-foot wingspan. It is one of the places with the highest biodiversity in the world. Travelers have the opportunity to canoe along the Cuyabeno River watching the wildlife and participate in jungle activities such as piranha fishing and eating lemon ants!
